Access to HE

Access to HE (Higher Education) are learning programmes aimed to prepare the learner for University courses. These Access to HE courses are designed to support learners who do not possess the required qualifications to meet the University Entry Requirements.

There are multiple pathways that you can choose from:

  • Access to HE (Nursing)
  • Access to HE (Midwifery)
  • Access to HE (Health)

What will you learn

The curriculum varies according to the pathway you take ñ however, for most Health or Nursing related courses, the learning usually comprises of:

  • Biology
  • Health Science / Physiology
  • English (Literacy)
  • Maths (Numeracy)
  • Nursing Studies

Studying and learning these prepares you for University learning and careers such as Midwifery, Nursing, Health Officer, Social Worker and many more.


Access to HE courses are designed to last 9- 12 months but is different for different pathways. You can discuss with your Assessor about the potential length of the course and how you can arrange the learning to take place according to your abilities and availability.
