01Are there any entry requirements for the access course?
You must be over 19 years of age. You need Level 2 English: GCSE Grade C/4 or above, Functional Skills Level 2, Adult Literacy Level 2, or an equivalent qualification from your home country.
02How many credits of Biology or Science are available?
Access to HE Health Science — 39 Credits.
Access to Nursing, Access to HE Nursing & Midwifery, Access to HE Health Professions — 24 Credits.

03What is the cost of the course, and does funding cover it?
If you live in the UK, you may be entitled to a non-means-tested Student Loan to cover the entire cost. This loan and any interest are written off once you complete your degree. Learn more on GOV.UK.
Self-funders pay a discounted rate of £2,000. The course is worth £3,380.

04What funding is available for me to study for a degree?

05When do the next courses begin?
We start new courses in September and February each year with a choice of weekday, weekend and evening sessions.
06How long does the course last?
Approximately 9 months.
07How will the course be assessed? Are there any exams?
There are a range of different assessments to prepare you for university — reports, essays, tests, written questions & answers, and posters.
08Do I need to have good computer skills?
We will support you with the use of Teams. You will need a fairly good understanding of IT — using the internet, sending emails, attaching documents, and using a spellchecker. If you don't have fairly good IT skills, we recommend taking a beginners course at your local college.
09Will I get help to apply for university?
Absolutely. We are a registered UCAS Centre and will submit your application along with a reference from us, electronically.
10Is the whole course online?
Yes, no travel is required.
11Can I apply if I need additional support with my studies?
You will need a good standard of English. If you need additional support due to English being a second language, we will signpost you to organisations providing support. For learners with learning differences (Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Autism, ADHD, etc.), we make reasonable adjustments.
12How long is the Access course valid for?
The majority of universities ask for study within the last 3 to 5 years.
13Is there an age limit to studying a Health-related degree?
Not in the UK, but you can check with your chosen university to be sure.
14What will I study in the Access course?
An exciting range of science, sociology, psychology and skills development units.
15How long does a degree take to complete?
Usually 3 years full-time and 4 years part-time.
16Will I get support with learning differences at university?

17How much can I earn as a health professional in the NHS?

18Is it true that Midwifery places are hard to find?
There aren't as many places for Midwifery as other professions — that's why we offer a Midwifery pathway with additional units to strengthen your application.
19Can I apply for jobs with an Access to HE Diploma without going to university?
Yes — it's a Level 3 qualification equivalent to 3 A-Levels.
20Is the course recognised by UK universities?
The majority of universities accept Access to HE courses. We are registered with the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.
21How many hours will I attend classes each week?
Six hours each week, mainly in term-time.
22Do I need experience in Health or Care work?
No — there is no placement requirement. Caring for a family member or friend counts. You could also consider volunteering with the NHS to strengthen your application.
23How do I apply?

24Can I apply if I live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland?
Yes! You will apply to Student Finance England, usually via a paper application. We will assist you.
25Which Diploma should I choose?
University entry requirements specify the credits they expect in specific subjects. A complete list of units for each diploma is on our courses page. Our advisors can help you choose.
26How many credits is an Access to HE course?
60 Credits.
27How many UCAS points can I achieve?
You can achieve up to 144 UCAS points on our courses.
28Which Access to HE Diplomas do you offer?
